OHIO EYE ALLIANCE the future of visionOur PhysiciansPage 1Sanjeev Dewan, M.D. Pediatric Ophthalmology Aesthetic Laser SurgeryDr. Sanjeev Dewan received his medical degree at the prestigious McGill University located in Montreal, Canada. His interest in the field of Ophthalmology drew him to the University of Saskatchewan, where he completed his residency. He completed his formal education at Indiana University in the subspecialty of pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Dewan established his pediatric practice with Ohio Eye Alliance in 1991. He is known to be popular in his treatment of eye disorders of young children and has the keen observation that is required for examining children with short attention spans. I In 1996, Dr. Dewan introduced Aesthetic Laser Surgery to his practice as an option to meet the desire of his patients. His skill with the laser allows him to perform oculoplastic surgery with quicker healing time and reduce wrinkles, acne scars, growths and sun damaged skin. Dr. Dewan is the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus/Director of Aesthetic Laser Surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. He serves on the medical staff at Aultman, Mercy Medical Center, and Alliance Community Hospital. Page 2Richard Lehrer, M.D. Glaucoma & Anterior Segment Surgery Dr. Richard Lehrer received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brandeis University and his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1988. He pursued his postgraduate career with a fellowship in glaucoma at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and completed his residency in Ophthalmologyat the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He then completed fellowship training in Cornea and Glaucoma at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Lehrer established his practice with Ohio Eye Alliance in 1993, where he is currently the Director of Glaucoma Services. He serves on the medical staffs of Alliance Community Hospital, Surgery Alliance, Aultman Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and the Surgery Center at Southwoods in Boardman. In addition to keeping up with the latest glaucoma surgical and diagnostic techniques, he is also an experienced cataract and intraocular lens implant and corneal transplant surgeon. Dr. Lehrer has been involved in ophthalmic and neurological research since 1984 and continues to maintain an interest in teaching, having distinguished himself with six faculty appointments from 1983 through the present. He is co-author of numerous original research papers and delivers many ophthalmology lectures throughout the United States. He is dedicated to sight preservation and serves as medical advisor to the Melvin Jones District 13-D Lions Eye Foundation, The Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired, and is the Lions District 13-D Chairman for Sight Conservation.Page 3Paul Garfinkle, M.D. Retina & Comprehensive OphthalmologyDr. Paul Garfinkle graduated cum laude from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He then attended Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in PA where he received his medical doctorate in 1993. Dr. Garfinkle completed his internship at Abington Memorial Hospital before leaving the state of PA. His ophthalmology residency was fulfilled at Jonas Friedenwald Eye Institute at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore where he was appointed Chief Resident from 1996-97. Dr. Garfinkle joined Ohio Eye Alliance in 1999 as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. He has experience in the diagnosis and treatment of medical retinal disease, age related macular degeneration, and small incision cataract surgery. He is able to offer the latest treatments in Macular Degeneration including Avastin, which is now being approved for other conditions like diabetes, vein occlusions and neovascular glaucoma.Dr. Garfinkle is board certified in Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association. Currently, he is Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Alliance Community Hospital. Scott Young, O.D. Clinic Director

Dr. Scott Young is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Optometry. He received post-graduate training in an Ohio State University affiliated Ocular Disease Residency Program and at the University of Cincinnati. He is currently a clinical Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University and is the Residency Coordinator for Ohio Eye Alliance's Ocular Disease residency program.

He has been a member of the American Optometric Association since 1991 and is currently an Ohio Optometric Association Zone Governor. Dr. Young has participated in research projects involving glaucoma, cataract, refractive surgery and retinal nerve fiber layer analysis utilizing laser technology. He has presented posters at the EastWest Eye Conference and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has also volunteered his professional skills to people in need in countries such as Brazil and Ecuador.

Teaching Facility

Ohio Eye Alliance is also proud to be a teaching facility. Each year, recent optometry school graduates from all over the country apply for our Residency Program. The resident doctor is provided with the opportunity to be a part of a large multi-facility multi-doctor practice. They are able to observe surgeries, exciting new treatments, and the unique disease pathologies our doctors specialize in. Residents are also invited to many exciting continuing education opportunities, including a presentation to current OSU optometry students, and take part in our annual CE seminars and many round table discussions. Through a special parnership with The Ohio State Univiersity College of Optometry, Ohio Eye Alliance provides a unique learning experience to fourth-year optometry students through an externship program.
